My Very Own! Joshua Station Program Features Part 1

For this year’s Spring Into Caring for Joshua Station, we’re celebrating doorways to opportunity. Our residents courageously step across many thresholds along their journey with us. They find support from staff, volunteers, and each other—as they prepare for their futures.

We’d like to highlight a few of our distinctive program features, through the voices of those who matter most…

Our repurposed 1950s “motor inn” is a safe and supportive environment for 30 families

“I was five years old when I got to Joshua Station. When I first saw our rooms, I couldn’t believe how beautiful they were, all decorated. I spread out my arms [like this] and fell face-first into my new bed. It was soft, and my very own!” —Amaya

Shared dinners, events, celebrations, gathering spaces

“One thing that was hard for us at first was attending the weekly community dinners. We’re very quiet and private people. The room full of strangers was overwhelming. Little by little we opened up. It still stretches us, but now if we have to miss we’re sorry! We look really look forward to Thursday nights.” —Philicia L

On-site Family Advocates assist residents in developing and implementing a personalized Family Action Plan, and coordinate services from a wide variety of agencies and local resources.

“The support programs here are amazing. But the biggest thing is having people to talk to who are truly caring and understanding. Some of the staff have been exactly where we are, and we feel the love every day. When we had a family crisis recently, there was not a dry eye among the staff in the room.” —John M

Counseling/therapy for children and adults on site

“I knew I needed major support to get back to being a good parent. My older son got the counseling help he needed for his trauma, and is doing great now. My own experience in therapy helped me deal with things inside and be able to move forward. —Amber O
