Friday mornings at Mile High Ministries begin with a virtual staff prayer gathering. We use the time-tested practice of Examen to train ourselves to look through the eyes of the Spirit and consider where we have seen God’s presence and movement in our shared work.

We express gratitude—and sometimes surprise at seemingly unlikely ways we notice God’s presence. We call to mind highs and lows of the week, receiving and extending grace for the ways we haven’t done well.

The last question of our prayer invites us to look ahead with hope and anticipation: How will you participate in God’s loving work in the world? We express our desires. Then we surrender them to God: “Your will be done.”

As 2026 is under way, I’m reflecting on the past and looking ahead—with this prayerful practice in mind. Our big surprise in 2025 was a renovation project at Joshua Station that became urgent early in the year and wrapped up just before Christmas. To the sound of jackhammers, we continued to provide safe, supportive, connected housing—housing that heals—for our families. Next week, I’ll share a few thoughts about our hopes for 2026—knowing there will be surprises this year, as well.

I invite you to consider the invitation of the Examen prayer: How will you participate in God’s loving work in the world in 2026?

Blessings and peace,
