How might a kid make a difference in your life? We invite YOU to discover! Many of our volunteer tutors express how their lives are greatly enriched by their tutoring experience. Just as importantly, of course, it can be life-changing for one of our resident students.

It’s an urgent, time-sensitive need. We’re starting the new program at Clara Brown Commons right away, so students can get off to a good start in the new calendar year.

Contact ASAP: Please email our community advocate Cha’Rel Wright or call her at 720-614-5295 for application details and any questions. Our tutoring program is in conjunction with our wonderful partners at Whiz Kids, who both screen and support our tutoring volunteers.

If you aren’t able to serve in this way, could you pass the word today to someone who might?

“We get the privilege of pouring into the next generation, like those ahead of us have done for us.” Cha’Rel says. “We never know the impact we have on someone over time, but we can make a difference today by showing up and letting them know we care about their future.”

Beyond that, Monday nights bring together people from all over our city, with a remarkable variety of backgrounds and life experiences. Adult friendships form, meaningfully, side by side in serving.

Studies prove the following when it comes to children having a tutor:

  • Positive impact on learning. A review of multiple tutoring studies found that elementary students with tutors gain roughly four additional months of learning compared to those without tutoring.
  • Greatest benefit for struggling students. Research suggests that students with lower grades or experiencing learning difficulties tend to see the most significant improvement with tutoring.
  • Subject-specific effectiveness. Tutoring can be particularly beneficial in early reading skills (preschool to first grade) and math concepts (second to fifth grade).
  • Improved confidence and engagement. Beyond academic gains, tutoring can also boost a child’s confidence in their abilities and motivation to learn.

Important considerations:

  • Quality of tutoring matters. The effectiveness of tutoring depends on the structure of the sessions, alignment with classroom curriculum, and the quality of the tutors. (Which is why we provide training and program support.)
  • Frequency and duration. Studies often highlight the importance of consistent, regular tutoring sessions for optimal results.
  • Individualized approach. Effective tutoring should be tailored to each student’s specific needs and learning style.

It’s a joy to watch the transformation unfold. Come be a part!
