I’m writing to ask for your generous support to help Mile High Ministries finish our fiscal year (June 30, 2020). Your help will expand our capacity to create transformative community for people who are rebuilding from the experience of poverty and housing insecurity.

I’m very conscious that I’m writing to friends who are living in a time of crisis. You may be experiencing trauma in your mental or physical health or to your capacity to financially support community organizations—even those you love and that express your most deeply held values. It’s also a time of great attention, as there should always be, to racial trauma and injustice. Please know that we are concerned for you and have heard stories about how much some of you are suffering.

When Covid-19 broke into our world, all of us very quickly had to think about how to hunker down and be safe. We shared with you how that impacted the families living in small spaces at Joshua Station. Health precautions completely upended the resources we typically provide to support our families as they work toward life goals. We’ve been blown away by the generous response that has helped us keep our residents fed and supplied, even as most of them have lost their jobs and income.

We cancelled our Spring Theater Event and wondered how that would impact the Joshua Station budget. When we shared that need, so many of you responded with joyous generosity that donations exceeded what we had budgeted for the event. Thank you so much!

We’re all wondering what “opening up” will look like in our world. Here is part of what it means at Mile High Ministries:

First, we are opening up to new families moving into Joshua Station. For safety’s sake, we put that on hold when the virus hit, disappointing a half-dozen families who were hoping to move in and start rebuilding their lives. Now those families have begun to move into their new homes with us, which feels like new life—for all of us!

We are also making progress toward opening up an entirely new community at Clara Brown Commons. Our first residents will move in this summer, when the Colorado Village Collaborative opens a temporary tiny home village for women on the property. This summer we continue to raise funds and make plans to build a permanent home for 78 families on our northeast Denver site.

As you are able, will you please consider a financial gift to help us finish our fiscal year? Your support will grow our capacity to seek God’s peace for our city through the creative, compassionate, and prayerful development of people and communities.

Thank you, friends. Please be well.

In Christ,
Jeff Johnsen
