Now I Have a Real Career – Joshua Station Program Features Part 2

This week we highlight a few more of our distinctive program features, through the voices of those who matter most…

Tutoring, mentoring, enrichment activities, school liaison

[Education Liaison] Ben helped me with schooling—figuring out what high school to go to, checking on my grades, finding academic support. During my senior year, he helped me figure out next steps: which colleges to look into, admission applications, and scholarships. We visited campuses and I could see how it all comes together.” —Gwyndalyn C

ESL, GED, university, and trade school pathways

“Since I was in school 20 years ago, I’ve forgotten everything. But [Family Advocate] Rhiannon told me it’s great to be starting with a clean slate! I’m in GED classes three times a week and I study while my baby is napping. I’m already applying for college.” —Crystal O

Job readiness and employer connections

“I completed a medical coding certificate that resulted in getting a job I love. Now I have a real career and have enough money to support my family without having to rely on food stamps and Medicaid. I’m taking new courses in medical finance. Our situation is changing completely.” —Jayde B

Parenting, finances, health, relationships, planning

“I’ve learned so much here in the time management classes, budgeting classes, and housing workshops. My parenting coach helped me realize I need to help my young son become more independent, and I’m easing him into being ok out of my sight. The staff is there for me in hard times. They believe in me and help keep me on track.” —Sarah E
