I’ve always had a hospitality bone,” says Samantha (Sam) Glenn. Joshua Station kids are helping her fill plates for community dinner—joining in the joy of serving their neighbors.
Sam is Chief Operating Officer of Modern Plate, a Denver-based meal delivery service dedicated to family-style meals. Meals are prepared in a large commercial kitchen, packaged for hands-free cooking, and portioned for four people so they can be eaten together—fostering hospitality within busy families, among friends, or gifted to others in times of need.
Sam first heard about Joshua Station and Mile High Ministries when executive director Jeff Johnsen spoke at a 5280 Fellowship gathering through the Denver Institute for Faith and Work. It set her mental wheels spinning with connections to her business life.
“Our business model, from the start, has been to set aside a percentage of revenue to give back to the community through our families feeding families initiative,” Sam explains. A portion of meal sales go back into the community to support partners such as Joshua Station, and Sam loves a hands-on approach. “I love hanging out with the kids here, and watching the little ones full of life. Oh and… their parents too. I get to hear their remarkable stories. It’s a time for our team to meet our city neighbors, and for Chef Garrett to share his meal creations with others.”
Sam’s vision for Modern Plate is to cultivate the vitality of our city—through a culture of connection. “Businesses are fundamentally FOR the community,” she says. “As a business, we provide for the needs of our customers and the employees we serve. It is our calling. Of course we need to be smart and sustainable as we steward the business resources, but that shouldn’t be a barrier in giving back to the community. We are continuing to think of new, creative ways to partner with places like Joshua Station to embody our company values, and make them a tangible reality. It’s core to our business, and my personal life values. This is the stuff that keeps me energized.”
Mile High Ministries is blessed by this generous partnership with Modern Plate and a variety of other businesses who bring unique gifts. Invariably it starts with an owner or employee who has something stirring inside, an itch for giving, and a spark of creative thinking about what might be done through their kind of business.
