Dear friends,

At Joshua Station, our residents display an abundance of caring. It’s not simply that our team cares (we do). But the most important caring that goes on here is residents caring for each other. Kelsey Shackleford, staffing the front desk last week, shared this:

“Tonight was a great example of caring! It was Chantel’s night to clean the kitchen. Some of our team

[Penny Salazar-Phillips and counseling interns] were running a parent-kiddo family activity until 7pm. Chantel was signed up for kitchen chores, but she couldn’t begin until a bit after the program had finished. The kitchen takes over an hour to clean, and this part of the building is closed and locked up at 8pm. She began cleaning quickly. A few minutes later, Keishla shows up… ‘Hey Kelsey can I get another set of cleaning supplies? I’m going to help Chantel clean the kitchen, so she finishes on time.’ They tackled the kitchen cleaning together. It was wonderful!”

When “called out” later, Keishla responded matter-of-factly, “Oh we always help each other at Joshua Station. For one thing, things take less time. For another, Chantel’s my friend. It’s just how Joshua Station is. We keep an eye on each others’ kids and have each others’ backs.”

Transformation at Joshua Station, where families are healing from homelessness and making next steps, absolutely depends on such lavish abundance. There is always enough for all, not because our staff team has enough for all, but because each person’s gifts are being unleashed in this beautiful space.

Blessings and peace,
