On the first Saturday of summer, we threw a block party in Russell Square Park, catty-corner from Clara Brown Commons. As burgers were coming off the grill, youngsters and elders danced to live music, and kiddos whooped it up with their game prizes.

But the “grand prize” was the big pile of rental applications at the table of our management company. Some folks showed up nearly an hour early to make sure they got one of those applications. Over 80 families attended, and we’re absolutely thrilled to think that many, many of them will be new neighbors and friends when Clara Brown Commons opens in the fall.

Jeff Johnsen and other team members scurried back and forth to the construction site, taking small groups of prospective residents on tours. Sporting bright yellow safety gear, applicants got to see apartment units taking shape, as well as our many community spaces. Everyone buzzed with excitement—at this stage it seems more real than ever, and easy to imagine sharing lots of life in the place.

Our builders/partners at Alliance Construction Solutions enjoyed mingling among the crowd, taking pleasure in meeting those who will benefit from the skilled work of their hands.

The event not only provided a wonderful opportunity for us to connect with the Cole neighborhood, but also showcased the love and care that Clara Brown Commons will offer to its residents. Knowing that 60 plus families will have a beautiful and loving community to call home is truly heartwarming.

One of our neighbors gave Jeff a big hug and said, “I really hope that I get accepted to live here. But even if I don’t, maybe someone who needs housing even more than me will. Thank you for making this happen!” We want to pass her thanks along to all of you who are making truly things happen through your care and support.

Be sure and mark your calendars for our next big party on Friday October 27—Clara Brown Commons Grand Opening! (Details here.)
