Dear friends,

I want to share just a bit of what’s new for 2026. What a year this will be for us!

Resident Room Expansion – Joshua Station

We held off on welcoming new families to Joshua Station during 2025’s construction. So we’re busy with interviews, evaluations, and other preparations for more than a dozen new families into the program in the next couple of months. This will be the single largest intake of residents in Joshua Station’s history, thanks to the renovation work we’ve undertaken in the past year.

More Office Space

We’ve suddenly gained much-needed office space next door to Joshua Station—in our “Wyandot Building.” Twenty years ago, our friends Steve Thompson and Sulma Mendoza opened the Justice and Mercy Legal Aid Center with humble beginnings—and eventually expanded into all of Wyandot’s offices. They celebrated 20 years by purchasing a new building in December! Since we’re now expanding fast, this opens room for MHM’s growth.

Mental Health Program Expansion

Thanks to a gift from a generous friend, we’re turning former law offices into a counseling center, including three play therapy rooms. We’ll add a Spanish-speaking mental health professional to our team and another with specialization in addiction treatment—complementing our current peer-recovery program. In addition to better serving our JS families, we’ll be able to offer much-needed mental health support to our alumni and residents of our partner communities.

Clara Brown Commons Expansion

At Clara Brown Commons, we hope to complete the city block by building 12-15 new units of housing for low-income seniors on the vacant land next to our playground. We’re exploring new advances in modular building technology as part of an emerging movement to lower the cost of housing in Colorado. We continue to expand our resident support and community-building activities among the residents of our 61-unit apartment building.

New Next-Door Neighbors – Denver Broncos

After the Broncos’ big announcement, we’re still wrapping our heads around the fact that within the next five years Joshua Station literally will be in the shadow of the newest NFL stadium, to be built just two blocks away! Plus a 100+ acre bustling entertainment district with other new event venues, hotels, and businesses. We don’t know what this will mean for us, but we intend to leverage this opportunity for our resident families.

Executive Team Hits Its Stride

We’ve strengthened our organizational capacity, thanks to your generosity! For example, we began 2026 with an executive team of six (compared to only two in 2025): Jeff Johnsen, Executive Director/CEO, Amy Jackson, Chief of Staff (new role), Miriam Medina, Director of Formation (new role), Kira Leefers, Director of Development (new role), Vince Trujillo, Director of Programs (new hire), and Jedidah Frederick, Director of Operations (new hire).

Spiritual Transformation

Even as we grow, we stay focused on the inner transformation and shared spiritual journey that is the heartbeat of our mission. In addition to housing, we continually ask how being connected to Mile High Ministries—as a resident, volunteer, or even a donor—shapes each person created in the image of God. In these unsettled times for those who struggle with poverty and those of us who companion them, we trust God’s loving spirit to guide.

Blessings and peace,

Jeff Johnsen/CEO
