About Issachar Center
Who is Issachar?
The people of Issachar were a tribe under King David “who understood the times and knew what God's people should do.”
(1 Chronicles 12:32)
The Issachar Center engages leaders in an urbanizing world so that they can understand the times and know what to do. Sometimes we describe this as walking with "a Bible in one hand, and the newspaper in the other."
The Issachar Apprenticeship has 5 components:
Residential Cohort – We believe that Issachar students have a lot to learn by way of living with each other in community. All apprentices, as well as the program directors, live on site.
Academics – Issachar apprentices must be enrolled full-time (12 credit hours) in a university or college.
Vocational Community Engagement – Issachar students must complete work-study hours and community engagement hours that pertain to their passions, serve the community, and prepare them for their calling.
Leading from Below – Issachar students are engaged in their local community and the greater society around them. Leading from Below is a chance for Issachar to talk about issues going on in the world today. This is open to the community and gives the students a chance to hear from key voices within the community.
Leading from Within – Issachar students are provoked to look inwardly as to who God has created them to be. Leading from Within is a discipleship component of the apprenticeship: giving a space for students to learn about themselves, study God's Word, and share their journey with other apprentices.
